STEM PROGRAM
According to the US Department of Commerce, STEM occupations are growing at 24% while other occupations are growing at 4%. A career in STEM means a career on the cutting edge. It means working in fields like computer technology, medicine, engineering, design, and robotics.
Since 2001, students of an African American background interest in STEM have dropped dramatically to lower than any other ethnicity. One of our important initiatives is to provide opportunities for students to explore their passion with hands-on activities as well as shadowing opportunities in a STEM-related field through the help of our partners. By exposing our BV students to STEM and providing them with opportunities to explore STEM-related fields, our hope is that they will perhaps develop a passion for it and hopefully pursue a job in a STEM related field.
